Science is all around us. It is part of our lives, every single day whether that be cooking, gardening, building, using technology or recycling, we are unknowingly using scientific principles. The advancements in science and technology are changing our world at blistering speeds, one that is leading our children’s futures to one filled with wonderous leaps in technological and scientific advancements.
At Ocean Road Primary School, Science is taught as a specialist subject with children through Years 1-6 receiving one hour of instruction per week. Science lessons involve inquiry based, hands-on engaging activities where students work collaboratively using the scientific method used by Scientists across the globe.
Quality lessons are planned and implemented in line with the Australian Curriculum. Science is taught across three interrelated strands: Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour and Science Inquiry Skills. The Science Understanding strand is comprised of four sub-strands: Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Earth and Space Sciences.
