Mental Health and Wellbeing

Ocean Road Primary School promotes and supports the social and emotional wellbeing of every student. We embrace the critical relationships between wellbeing, engagement, learning and future productivity. We aim to promote student wellbeing and provide opportunities for our students to develop mental health knowledge, skills and competencies.

Be You, the national mental health in education initiative complements our whole school proactive, trauma informed approach to promote positive mental health. Our school based programs including Zones of Regulation and Open Parachute assist students to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills to make decisions and take action to strengthen their sense of personal identity and autonomy, build resilience, manage risks and develop satisfying, respectful relationships.

We aim to develop supports within the school community for engaging in mental health promotion, early intervention and case management responses suited to individual needs. We provide a targeted approach through our Seasons for Growth and Drumbeat programs along with one-to-one counselling with our School Chaplain and School Psychologist. We establish and maintain partnerships with agencies suited to the care provision of students and families.
