ABSENTEES—SCHOOL MESSAGING SYSTEM—Outreach
Ocean Road Primary School is using the school message system “Outreach” to assist parents and the school to communicate regarding student absences. This is an automated, personalised SMS text system where texts are sent directly to parents’ mobile phones if their child does not arrive at school. This is part of our duty of care of our students. It also saves parents’ time and makes the process a lot more efficient. Parents can respond directly via text from their mobile phone.

Going to school every day is vitally important so your child does not miss out on important ideas, concepts, knowledge and skills for future learning. At our school, we want your children to do their very best. To get the best education, they need to go to school every day. By working together, our school community can support your child’s attendance.
Missing school adds up:
- if a child misses an average of five days a term (years 1 to 10), they miss out on approximately one year of school
- if a child misses one day a week of school (from years 1 to 10), they will miss almost two years of school
- if a child misses 1.5 days a week of school (from years 1 to 10), they will miss almost three years of school
- if a child misses two days a week of school (from years 1 to 10), they will miss almost four years of school
- if a child misses three days a week of school (from years 1 to 10), they will miss almost six years of school
